Music playschool

Music belongs to everyone, even from a young age. You can join a music playschool at the age of approximately three months and continue until you are old enough to start school.

The task of early childhood music education is to lead the child to a lifelong journey to music by offering musical experiences, abilities and skills.

The aim is to lay the foundation for a continuous music hobby, not only for the child but for the whole family, and to support the child’s holistic growth, development, creativity and self-expression through music.

In addition to the traditional music playschool for children aged 3–6 years, we have music playschool for families that children aged 0–2 years can join together with their parents, carers or grandparents.

At the music playschool, children learn in groups. The teaching language is Finnish.

0–2-year-olds

The music playschools for children aged 0–2 are for children and a familiar adult. The aim is to enjoy music, get new experiences and foster interaction between the parent and the child.

The activities support the child’s development in a versatile manner at different stages of age and help them enjoy and practise music at home. The groups consist of children of around the same age. The groups do nursing rhymes, dancing, rhythmic instruments and play songs and they listen to music.

3–4-year-olds

Children aged 3–4 years get to know the different areas of music through singing, playing, musical exercise and play. The groups meet once a week for 45 minutes. Three-year-olds can attend the class either alone or with an adult during the autumn semester, depending on their choice.

5–6-year-olds

In addition to singing, dancing, musical exercise and listening to music, the groups for children aged 5–6 also try out musical instruments, such as an ukulele, kantele, rhythm and melody instruments and a recorder. The aim of the activities is to provide versatile artistic and musical experiences and to familiarise the child with how to play creative music together.

The music playschool groups for children aged 5–6 meet once a week for 60 minutes.

Teaching materials and instruments

Teachers provide information on the materials used in their groups and are also happy to give tips on how to purchase records, songbooks and instruments. The classrooms have a versatile range of instruments suitable for children.

Other equipment at music playschool

In music playschool groups, you sit on the floor and move a lot. Both children and adults should dress accordingly. Children should wear indoor slippers or non-slip socks. You can also bring your own muslin for small babies to use when playing on the floor.

Notices, absences and cancellations

The music playschool will send you Wilma messages. If a class is cancelled because the teacher is ill, you will receive an SMS. We also hope that you will let us know through Wilma if your child will be absent. The teacher should be made aware of any longer absence periods so that they can take them into account when planning the lessons, but the absences are not compensated in the tuition fee.

If you have to drop out in the middle of the season, please always send a written notification either to your teacher (firstname.lastname(at)turunkonservatorio.fi) or Pauliina Sirkiä (pauliina.sirkia(at)turunkonservatorio.fi).

Please note that as a rule, one semester is the smallest invoicing unit for the music playschool.
