Four concerts to launch the Diamond Series
Supported by the Turku Conservatory Foundation and the Lieto Savings Bank Foundation, the Diamond series kicks off with four concerts on the last weekend in October. The ensembles, made up of teachers from the Turku Conservatory and their artistic partners, will offer audiences a diverse selection of classical music and contemporary chamber jazz.
At the opening concert on Friday 24.10.2025 at 18.00, Belarusian-born flutist Oleg Sytianko and organist-harpsichordist-pianist Julia Tamminen will perform under the title“Music without borders – when melodies speak louder than words”. The concert features works by European and American composers such as Camille Saint-Saëns, Francis Poulenc, Geoffrey Bush, Gary Schocker, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Vladimir Magalif.
The second concert on Friday evening at 20.00 will feature accordionist Marko Valtonen, who will perform a solo recital of music by J.S. Bach. The programme includes a selection of Goldberg Variations (BWV 988) and Valtonen’s own arrangement of Bach’s Partita No 2 in D minor (BWV 1004) Chaconne section.
The series continues on Sunday 26 October at 16.00, when singer-composer Josefiina Vannesluoma will perform her compositions from the work Immortality. Josefiina Vannesluoma’s lively music ranges from ecstatic outbursts to understated elegance. Vannesluoma, who was named Artist of the Year, performed her new Finnish-language poetic compositions and chamber music ensemble at the Turku Jazz Festival in March. In the new compositions, Vannesluoma continues his collaboration with poet Milka Luhtaniemi. The lyrics deal with themes of timelessness, remembrance and meaning. Vannesluoma will be accompanied by pianist Tommi Karhusaari at the concert in Sigyn Hall.
Violinist Hanne Lund and pianist Jaana Luuppala will close the first concert group of the Diamond Series on Sunday at 18.00. The programme for the concert in the Old Style includes Karen Hatšaturjan’s Sonata for Violin and Piano Op. 1, Alfred Schnittke’s Suite in the Old Style and Johannes Brahms’ Sonata No. 2 in A major.
The Diamond Series concerts will continue with three concerts on Sunday 16.11. All concerts in the Diamond Series are free of charge and last about an hour each, welcome!
