Songs from across the sea

August 19, 2025

As many as 25 brand new compositions from 25 different countries will be premiered in Finland at Sigyn Hall on Wednesday 3 September 2025 at 18:00.

It lasts about an hour and consists of two-minute sections, each composed by composers from around the world. The themes of the compositions are love, happiness, sadness and fear. The styles range from avant-garde to romantic, folk and jazz. The collection is performed in several countries around the world. The Finnish concert will follow immediately after the premiere.

The project is initiated and led by composer Paul Kopez from Australia. He explains that the aim of the Composers’ Project is not only to focus on our ability to express our humanity through music, but also to bring together an international group of composers and performers from four continents to collaborate and simultaneously create 25 amazing works for a combination of voice, clarinet, cello and piano.

The Finnish composer involved in the production is Antti Haapalainen, a teacher at the Turku Conservatory. The musicians taking part in the concert are also teachers at the Turku Conservatory.
