Ensemble playing

An important part of having a music hobby and especially of being a professional musician is to develop co-playing skills with other players. Playing music in orchestras, choirs, bands and other ensembles also increases the musician’s performance confidence and introduces them to other players.

Turku Conservatory has four string instrument, wind instrument and guitar orchestras and choirs that progress from one level to the next. There are numerous hobby bands for pop and jazz music. We also have regularly meeting vocal groups, piano groups and a folk music band.

In vocational pop and jazz music education, the students form bands that are at the centre of learning. Those who play classical music with orchestra instruments form a symphony orchestra and chamber music ensembles that gather periodically. Singers and pianists form Lied duos.
