Choirs and lied

We have two children’s choirs, a chamber choir for adults, a pop/jazz choir for adults and a Lied-course. Singing with us is fun, collaborative and opens up new opportunities.

Students of the Turku Conservatory can participate in choir activities without a separate entrance exam. New singers are invited to a meeting with the choir director before the start of the programme, where they are informed about the content of the choir activities and, if necessary, their vocal range and skill level are assessed.

The singers are committed to the choir for one academic year at a time. In addition to regular weekly rehearsals, choir activities include weekend rehearsals 1-2 times per term and performances. The choirs also often perform together with the school orchestras. To apply for choirs, click here.

Lauluaakkoset

is a training choir for boys and girls in years 1 and 2 who are starting to practise choral singing. The choir introduces the basics of choral singing and singing technique through games and activities. Lauluaakkoset rehearses in 2025-2026 at M420 Mestarinkatu (two groups on Tuesdays 17.00-17.45 and 18.00-18.45).

Maria Jaakkonen is the choir director.

Auriella

is a choir for boys and girls aged 8-12 years. Pre-studies are recommended, such as choir coaching or other music studies to learn the basics of note reading. No previous choir experience is required, just a desire to sing with others and learn more. The choir’s repertoire includes a wide variety of 1-3 part songs in different styles, often accompanied by body rhythms and instrumentation.

In the academic year 2025-2026 the choir is directed by Maria Jaakkonen and Tuire Mellanen.

During the academic year 2025-2026, Auriella rehearses in the small hall on Mestarinkatu on Tuesdays at 17.00-18.30.

Pop/jazz choir Rytmis

is a choir for adults, which introduces singers to the secrets of rhythm music and choral singing. The choir was founded in autumn 2025 at the request of adult students. Previous choral singing experience is an advantage, but not necessary. The programme consists of pop/jazz songs chosen by the instructors and depending on the skill level of the participants.

The choir is conducted by Maria Jaakkonen and Tuire Mellanen.

During the academic year 2025-2026, Rytmis rehearses on Mondays at 18.30-20.00 in the Small Hall on Mestarinkatu.
