33 participants in the Turku Conservatory composition competition

October 1, 2025

This year, the Society of Finnish Composers celebrates its 80th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the Turku Conservatory is organizing a composition competition in three categories. The submission period ended at the end of September, and by the deadline works were received from 33 pseudonyms.

The largest number of works, 29 in total, are entered in the adult category. The aim of this category is to provide young musicians with new and inspiring chamber music repertoire with a pedagogical perspective. In the youth categories — for ages 15–18 and under 15 — two compositions were submitted in each. The subject matter in the youth categories is free. The Turku Conservatory’s support foundation will award a total of €4000 in prizes.

The competition committee, consisting of members of the Society of Finnish Composers, will carry out the preliminary selection, and the jury will choose the winners. The jury members are Tytti Arola, Lauri Mäntysaari, Robert Ruohola, and Aino Tenkanen. The results will be announced at the Independence Day celebration concert in the Sigyn Hall on Saturday, December 6, starting at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the concert is free.
