Choirs and Lied
Our educational institution has two choirs for children, a youth choir, a chamber music choir for adults and a Lied course. For us, singing is fun, communal and opens up new opportunities.
Students of the preparatory and basic education in the arts of the Turku Conservatory can sign up for choirs without a separate entrance examination. Before choir practice begins, new singers will be invited to meet the choir leader. During the meeting, they will hear about the choir activities and their range and skill level will be tested, if necessary.
The choir can carry out ensemble playing as included in the curriculum and organise performances. You commit to the choir for one school year at a time. In addition to the regular weekly practices, choirs have 1–2 weekend practices in a semester as well as performances. Choirs often perform together with the educational institution’s orchestras. You can sign up for the choirs here.
Lauluaakkoset
is a coaching choir for girls and boys in the 1st and 2nd grade who are starting a choir hobby. In the choir, the students familiarise themselves with the basics of choir singing and how to use their voice through play and functional exercises. In the school year 2023–2024, Lauluaakkoset practises on Mestarinkatu M420 (Tuesdays 17.00–18.00).
Maria Jaakkonen leads Lauluaakkoset.

Children’s choir Auriella
is a choir for girls and boys aged 8–12. We recommend that the child has first been in a coaching choir before joining, or that they have learned the basics of how to read notes in other music-related studies. No previous choir experience is required, a desire to sing together with others and learn more is enough. The choir’s programme includes a wide range of songs in one to three parts, which are often accompanied by body rhythms and music.
In the school year 2023–2024, the choirs are led by Maikki Säikkä and Tuire Mellanen.
In the school year 2023–2024, Auriella practises on Tuesdays from 17.00 to 18.30 in the small hall of Mestarinkatu.

Girl choir Sigynella
is a youth choir for girls of secondary and upper secondary school age who already have previous choir experience or have otherwise mastered the basics of how to read notes and have the ability to practise songs independently. The choir’s programme contains a wide variety of music from different eras. Their list of songs include folk music, choir classics and rhythmic music. The songs are in 2 to 4 parts. Sigynella is led by Maikki Säikkä and Tuire Mellanen.
In the school year 2023–2024, Sigynella practises on Thursdays from 17.00 to 19.00 in the small hall of Mestarinkatu.
