Music technology studies
Music technology focuses on studio technology and sound reproduction, but musician competence is also an essential part of it. Based on your personal preference, you can choose between classical or pop and jazz music.
What do the studies cover?
Major studies
Studying music technology at Turku Conservatory can give a broad understanding of music technology in different music environments. The basic pillars of music technology in this training are sound reproduction and work in a sound studio.
General musician themes
Each student participates in instrument teaching and ensemble playing in different line-ups. In addition to the main instrument (either pop and jazz, classical instrument or singing), the basics of a secondary instrument are also taught. Your main instrument can also be a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). The studies also include musical perception subjects that support the student’s development into a musician. Our educational institution offers versatile and extensive subjects from which everyone can find something they can use to improve themselves.
Music producer emphasis
The vocational studies of a music technologist with a music producer emphasis (180 competence points) combine both the basic vocational studies of a music technologist and studies tailored for music production. In other words, the training provides basic competence in music technology and the knowledge and skills that are necessary for a music producer. Read more about the music producer emphasis.
How do the studies progress?
In the early stages, the student focuses mostly on developing the musician in themselves. In the first sound reproduction tasks, the student acts as an assistant. Little by little, they take on more responsibility as they work on sound reproduction tasks as a responsible music technologist. They will record and mix music at the school’s gigs, concerts and many projects and productions. As the studies progress, the student’s responsibility increases. The aim is to have all tasks at real gigs and work in the field of music. Turku Conservatory’s good connections to the world of work help with this.
The qualification of a music technologist provides general eligibility for further studies and a good basis for transitioning to real-life work.
